NBA Season Opener: The Miami Heat Will Not Go Undefeated

This just in, the Miami Heat have lost a basketball game. Fans must now wait at least one more game before crowning the 2010-2011 Heat the best team since the ’96 Chicago Bulls.  Tonight’s game against the Boston Celtics was not as close as the final score makes it seem.  In the second half, Lebron James did the best he could to salvage a poor performance by Dwyane Wade, while the Celtics were led by their own version of “The Big Three” plus a very active/creative Rajon Rondo.

And while on the subject of nicknames, James, Wade, and Chris Bosh need a better nickname than “Miami Thrice” or “Three Degrees”.  Suggestions? One things for certain, it’s impossible for even casual NBA fans to not feel strongly, one way or another, about the Heat.  Love ’em or hate’ em, you’re going to be seeing a lot of them on TV this year.  So, you better get use to the view.

View of the Day: Cowboy Stadium

If I were watching a game from Cowboy Stadium I would find the jumbotron distracting.  The Dallas Cowboys are dealing with enough distractions of their own right now.  With a 1-4 record and the division leading New York Giants in town for Monday Night Football, this could be a make or break game for the Cowboys and their playoff future.  So will Dallas prevail or will the Gmen emerge as the team to beat in the NFC East?  Share your views.

Sunday Night Football Recap: Brett Favre Looks/Is Old

Last night, Brett Favre played like a 41 year old man.  His 3 interecpetions, one returned for a GB touchdown, were the main reason the Vikings lost to the Packers 28-24. In classic Favre fashion, he gave his team a chance to win the game in its final moments, which included an apparent touchdown pass to Percy Harvin that would later be overturned.

So where do the Vikings go from here?  Favre appeared injured, perhaps a relapse of the ankle injury that has plagued him for years, and the Minnesota schedule doesn’t get an easier with an upcoming trip to the 5-1 Patriots on Halloween.  Can they still win the NFC North or will Tarvaris Jackson be their starting QB by seasons end?

For anyone who’s ever been to Lambeau Field, is the entire stadium made up of bleachers or are there individual seats as well?

NFL Sunday Recap Week 7: The Near End of the Suicide Pool

If the Buffalo Bills were able to hold on against Baltimore and beat the Ravens, nearly every contestant in a weekly lock pool would have been knocked out of their contest.  In my league, nearly 2/3 of the remaining 39 participants were taken out by the Saints and Broncos.  I was one of the lucky 12 to take Baltimore and remain alive by the narrowest of margins.

And how long will the Super Bowl hangover last in New Orleans?  The Saints remain very unpredictable and may struggle to keep up with the emerging Atlanta Falcons.  I have no idea what to make of the Raiders 59-14 shalacking of Denver in Mile High.  Where did Darren McFadden’s performance (165 rushing yard, 4 TD’s) come from?  He hasn’t had a game like this since he was running the “Wild Hog” in Arkansas.  With Kansas City and Oakland running 1-2 respectively, the AFC West has turned over on its axis.

Who do people feel is the team to beat in the NFC?  Falcons?  Eagles? Giants? Seahawks?  Share your views.

College Football: Saturday Night Has Not Been Good to No.1’s

First Alabama falls at South Carolina. Then Wisconsin take care of Ohio State.  And now, this evening in Columbia, the Missouri Tigers defeated current BCS #1 Oklahom.  So who really wants to be #1 right now anyway? When the polls come out tomorrow, Auburn and Oregon will be the top two teams in the country followed closely by Boise State, TCU, Michigan State, and Mizzou.  Look out for Alabama however because if the Crimson Tide beat Auburn on the last game of the regular season, and Oregon goes undefeated in the Pac 10, we very well could be looking at Bama/Oregon for the BCS Championship.  And this matchup could occur at the expense of an undefeated Boise St, TCU, and Michigan State.  Playoffs anyone?
